Benefits of Color Codes Back to Top ![]() By using color codes a company can help to eliminate frequent and costly mistakes and possible down time, especially for companies that use many pumps. Color codes can help maintenance personnel with several pumps determine what kind of oil or seals are in their pump or what type of oil and seals any particular pump is set up for. (Thus eliminating accidentally installing a hydrocarbon pump where a pipe prepped pump should be.) The purpose is to help assure that maintenance personnel or technicians do not put the wrong oil in their pump. This could be costly in a case where a technician puts hydrocarbon oil in a pump that should have Fomblin oil or maintenance technician puts a pump with Viton(r) seals in a system that should have buna seals.
